5 Reasons We Love the Three Valleys in Spring

In a comparative sense at least, spring skiing is something of a niche pursuit. The end of the season never has been and probably never will be the most popular time to hit the Three Valleys. But as those who’ve strayed from the flock to actually experience spring skiing will know, there are certain joys and pleasures that are 100% exclusive to the late season.

So if considering a trip to the finest luxury chalets the Three Valleys has to offer this year, here are five reasons to give real thought to heading out during the spring:

1 — Sunshine and Warmer Temperatures

First of all, while it’s always argued that the best of the snow arrives during the winter, there’s no denying how bitterly cold and unpleasant it can get outdoors. In the spring however, it’s still more than cool enough to ensure there’s great snow to be found, but there’s a massive difference made to the usual chill in the air. In fact, find yourself a terrace that’s a real sun-trap and you might just fit in a few hours of alpine sunbathing!

2 — Peace and Quiet

The fact that most skiers don’t head out in the spring means that those who do inherently enjoy a much quieter, peaceful and generally enjoyable experience. The resorts are less crowded and chaotic, the lift lines are much shorter and you might just end up with a whole piste to yourself. Whether you’re a first-timer, intermediate or budding pro, short lines and quiet pistes are rare joys we’re all in love with! Quieter times also tend to mean that most private chalets in the 3 Valleys are up for grabs for lower prices too!

3 — Al-Fresco Dining

It’s worth remembering that the Three Valleys boast some of the finest restaurants in the world with some of the most stunning outdoor terraces imaginable. Which is why it can be rather disappointing to find the spot of your dreams, only for freezing cold weather to rain on your parade… so to speak. In the springtime however, the great outdoors really is your oyster — al-fresco dining and picnic opportunities abound!

4 — Spring Snow

Is it true to say that spring snow isn’t as good as the mid-season stuff? It depends who you ask, but while the snow doesn’t stick around so long on the warmer spring days, conditions from about 10am to midday can be nothing short of dreamy. A thin layer of slush or corn snow is really effortless to ski on and is something you’ll only find out by giving it a try for yourself! And did we mention that you might just find yourself with a piste or two to yourself?

5 — Apres Ski at the Follie Douce

Last but not least, it would be nothing short of tragic to head to this neck of the woods without enjoying a spot of hedonistic apres ski at Follie Douce. This legendary party spot has been delighting revellers for over 35 years now and is an absolute must for epic outdoor hijinks. And as it’s an open air affair that’s best enjoyed in good weather, it goes without saying that it is best-enjoyed in the spring!
